The yearly blessing of homes at the Feast of the Theophany touches our daily lives with the sanctifying waters of the Jordan in which Our Lord was baptized. In blessing a home, the Church asks God to drive away every evil influence from our home and those who live in it, and to renew with extra vigor the influence of the Holy Spirit in our domestic lives. The Church Fathers speak of the home as a small church, and just as we must chase away the influences of the Evil One from our parishes and parish families, so too must we do so - at least annually - in our domestic family.
If you wish your home to be blessed, please complete the ‘Home Blessing’ form available after Liturgy or contact the Church Office.
Guidelines for preparation of a Home Blessing,
- Make an effort for all family members to be present during the blessing.
- Take the priest to the Iconismata (Icon area) of the home or have an icon available and a small bowl with fresh water to set up on the dining room or kitchen table.
- Write the names of the living family members whom you wish the priest to pray for and present them to him at the beginning.
- This is an opportune time for a Pastoral visit, to discuss a variety of Orthodox life topics with the Fr. Alexander
