Sunday School

Christian education is an essential and abiding ministry of the Greek Orthodox Church. All Holy Spirit Sunday School, teaches children ages 3 through grade 12, what it means to be an Orthodox Christian as well as teaching history and culture in compliance with the Ten Commandments, the Ecclesiastical calendar, including lessons of both the Old and New Testaments.

The greatest gift we can give to our children is our Greek Orthodox Faith. Jesus said
“Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the Kingdom of God. Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the Kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.”(Mark 10:14-15). At All Holy Spirit, the aim of Christian Education is to instill and nurture faith in Jesus Christ in a manner that befits our Orthodox Holy Traditions resulting in a genuine Orthodox way of life. The whole range of Sunday School education including books, visual aids, activities, bible studies and discussion of Christian values becomes vibrant because it is our expression of our love for Christ as well as our love for the children of our parish.

When you bring your children regularly to Sunday School, you provide them with a gift of knowledge and faith that will have lifelong significance.

Fr. Alexander received his bachelor’s degree in Slavic and Baltic Languages and Literature from University of Illinois, Chicago. Before entering seminary, he spent a year of study at Moscow Theological Seminary, Sergiev Posad, Russia. He then entered St. Vladimir Seminary in 2002 and was ordained deacon in 2004 and priest in 2005, graduating with a Master of Divinity the same year. His dissertation was on the New Martyrs of Russia, especially St. Amphilokhios of Pochaev, with a translation of his Akathist from Church Slavonic into English. Before coming to Omaha, Fr. Alexander served as Assistant Pastor at two very large parishes in the Chicago area; St. Peter and St. Paul, Glenview, and St John the Baptist, Des Plaines, where he obtained great pastoral experience and training. He was assigned as the Rector of All Holy Spirit in 2013. All Holy Spirit began with a burst of energy from the blessing of God, where the founding families had a strong desire to live and learn a more authentic Orthodox life, and welcome and join their neighbors to a new community in West Omaha. Today it is a vibrant and growing parish of 120 families. The ministries and members of the parish represent a wide range of backgrounds and interests which make the parish a diverse place of worship, witness, and service. In 2018, we have purchased and are developing 12 acres at 192 and Pacific, where our future Church home will stand as a light of Christ. It was this very vision that attracted Fr. Alexander to Omaha, to join in this very unique mission and become part of this holy story. Fr. Alexander and his wife Presbytera Oksana are the happy parents of a beautiful daughter, Ekaterina; and have made their home in, and come to love Omaha.
