Prosforo

To bake Prosforo is to participate in the heart of the Divine Liturgy, as the bread is to be used for Holy Communion.

Baking prosforo is a beautiful and significant act of worship as you and your family prepare and mix the ingredients to sacred hymns; knead the dough while in prayer; set the seal; and bake the bread, all the while mindful of the sacred act of worship as you offer this gift to the One Who is the true Bread of Life.

Any parishioner who is willing and able to make bread is encouraged to do so. Sign up during Coffee Hour or contact Stephanie Wilger. Seals are available for purchase at the Annunciation Bookstore.

Prosforo Schedule:
September 7 - Mo Wilson
September 8 - Stephanie Wilger
September 14 - Debbie Birge
September 21 - Joanne Sgourakis
September 28 - Voula Kotrotsios

There are quite a few more people attending Liturgy recently. This means we will need more prosfora than usual.

We will need:

  • At least 3-good sized 9-inch loaves, using at least 6-7cups of flour per loaf

 ---or---

  • At least 2- larger 10-inch loaves, using at least 8-9 cups of flour per loaf

Bread is finished baking when it reaches an internal temperature of 190-200 degrees.

Wrap bread in a tea towel when cooling so it doesn't dry out.

****PLEASE, Do Not use a towel laundered with fabric softener or scent beads!! This will make your bread taste like soap!!****

When bread is completely cooled, wrap well in plastic wrap.

Prosfora will need to be at the church on the Friday before, or NO LATER than 8:45am on Sunday.

Thank you all so much for helping make sure we have prosfora every Sunday.

If you have any questions or are interested in making prosfora please call Stephanie!
